I loved every word of this beautiful book, it was just magical.
When six people are stranded in the worst snow for many years they find themselves at an Inn in a place called Figgy Hollow. Charlie and his younger husband Robin, Bridge and her soon to be ex husband Luke and Mary and her boss crush, Jack.
Figgy Hollow was a dream of a place with a few small cottages and a church as well as the Inn that they took refuge in. Despite the characters all being completely different it was joyful to see them coming together and enjoying the festivities. You could really tell they were having the best Christmas of their lives. Although they were particularly inconvenienced by the circumstances it was good to see them jump off the hamster wheel for a while and just stop and enjoy what was there in front of them.
The descriptions of the meals and the Christmassy drinks made me so hungry and I could just feel the Christmas Spirit oozing from the pages.
It was wonderful to see each character work their way through difficulties and issues they’d had in their lives. The friendship bonds they made were so solid. I loved the camaraderie and the description of them playing games which was such a realistic portrayal of traditional family Christmases.
Milly Johnson is an author who excels at her craft, the character development is so subtle and effective. There is a strong sense of humour running through the story and I laughed out loud on numerous occasions. I even found the cracker jokes at the end quite funny.
This delightful book is bursting at the seams with Christmas joy and a bit of nostalgia thrown in for good measure. I really didn’t want it to end and now feel quite bereft but also completely satisfied with the journeys that most of the characters are now on.
Jam packed with seasonal merriment and some very touching and emotional scenes, with an uplifting crescendo of an ending. Once again Milly Johnson has poured her heart and soul onto the page.

Milly Johnson was born, raised and still lives in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. She is also a poem and joke-writer, a newspaper columnist and a seasoned after dinner speaker.
