Our Review
From the very first page I felt completely embroiled in this gripping and brilliant story. Each page had the adrenaline coursing through my body and as much as I didn’t want it to end I was desperate to find out the truth.
After spending eighteen years in prison for killing her mum, Izzie’s dad Gabe is determined to convince her of his innocence. However at the time of his conviction, the evidence against him was so compelling that he was convicted beyond all reasonable doubt.
I found that Gillian’s characterisation was brilliant and I was able to really feel for both Izzy and her father. Their characters were flawed and realistic Their efforts to forge a new relationship with each other came across many obstacles as every time she would try to believe something her father said she would find something out that would put a completely different spin on his version of the truth. It was very much a case of one step forward and two steps back. It was interesting how so many people knew snippets of things but hadn’t divulged various pieces of information.
The intrigue was constant throughout the whole book and I was constantly changing my mind over whether he was guilty or not and as to who could have done it if it hadn’t been him.
The writing is amazing and I’ve become a huge fan of Gillian’s after having read a couple of other books by her with equally riveting plots. It was very fast paced and I tore through it desperate to know what happens next.
Some aspects of the story were shocking as various situations were unravelled. Threads of the story were cleverly entwined and my heart broke with sadness due to dilemmas at the end. I am really looking forward to Gillian’s next thriller.
Sincerely
Book Angel x
