Me Before you by Jojo Moyes The Film and The Book

THE NEW YORK TIMES NUMBER 1 BESTSELLING NOVEL THAT IS LOVED AROUND THE WORLD, SOON TO BE RELEASED AS A FILM STARRING EMILIA CLARKE AND SAM CLAFLIN
Lou Clark knows lots of things. She knows how many footsteps there are between the bus stop and home. She knows she likes working in The Buttered Bun tea shop and she knows she might not love her boyfriend Patrick.
What Lou doesn't know is she's about to lose her job or that knowing what's coming is what keeps her sane.
Will Traynor knows his motorcycle accident took away his desire to live. He knows everything feels very small and rather joyless now and he knows exactly how he's going to put a stop to that.
What Will doesn't know is that Lou is about to burst into his world in a riot of colour. And neither of them knows they're going to change the other for all time.

My Review

I was quite late to the party in reading this book and my husband bought me it and the sequel After You, for Christmas, I had heard how sad it was so knew I needed some special time in which to read it.

It was heartbreaking and so when I was invited to a preview of the film I was slightly apprehensive as to whether it would capture the essence of the book. I really needn't have worried.

Seeing the book unfold on the big screen was indeed magical. The casting was perfect with Emilia Clarke playing the quirky, fun loving Louisa Clark and Sam Claflin playing Will Traynor who was paralyzed from the neck down following a motorcycle accident two years previously.
Will was very depressed and irritable and had lost the will to live but cheerful and caring Louisa became a ray of sunshine in his life and wanted to show him what adventures he could still have.

The book is totally respectful to a person's right to choose how they want to live and also shows the effects that can have on the other people involved. The characters were all exactly as I had imagined them and the scenery was breathtaking.

There were such beautiful tender moments which were filmed perfectly and they included the tenderness of the shaving scene and the enjoyment at the wedding. I think it would be easy to underestimate how much it took for Will to attend the wedding of his ex so that just shows how brave he was.

It was lovely to see Joanna Lumley cast as the bride's Godmother as she is a British treasure and Matthew Lewis aka Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter was well cast as Lou's superfit boyfriend Pat.

This film is a classic and one of the best and most heartbreaking that I've ever seen. It is as true to the book as it possibly could be. I loved it so much and cried throughout, my daughter hadn't read the book and she was in bits by the end of it especially as she loves Sam Claflin and he plays Will so well.

You must go and see this film and take plenty of tissues.
I really hope that After You is also made into a film.

Sincerely
Book Angel x
