The Unlikely Life of Maisie Meadows by Jenni Keer

When Maisie Meadows finds herself single and jobless on New Year’s Day, she resolves that this will be the year she focuses on bringing her scattered family back together. Romance is all very well, but it’s the people you grew up with that matter the most.

But a new job working at an auction house puts her in the path of Theo, a gorgeous but unattainable man who she can’t help but be distracted by. As their bond begins to grow, Maisie finds herself struggling to fulfil the promise she made to herself – but the universe has other ideas, and it’s not long before the Meadows family are thrown back together in the most unlikely of circumstances…

Can dealing with other people’s treasures help Maisie to let go of the past, and teach her who she ought to treasure the most?

Our Review

The Unlikely Life of Maisie Meadows is warm, witty, laugh out loud funny and at times totally heartbreaking. In fact at one point I thought I was going to have to put my kindle in the freezer.

Maisie Meadows is adorable and I completely fell in love with her. After falling for and breaking up with the wrong guy who just happens to be her boss. She finds herself looking for a new job and Is delighted to be offered a position at the local auction house. I know Jenni has connections with the antique world in real life and that knowledge really comes across in the book and I was fascinated with the workings of it all.

Maisie is such a well developed character that I feel like I know her so well. Especially with the glimpses of her life where she was always the little kid in the corner playing with her Sylvanian families. She was seemingly in a world of her own but was actually taking everything in that was going on around her with her older siblings and mum and dad.

I don’t know how Jenni manages it but she sprinkles a little bit of magic in her books and her incredible sense of humour shines through in her writing. Whilst reading this book you will either have a huge smile on your face which will eventually break out into a hearty laugh or you will be reaching for the tissues as some beautiful tender moments are revealed.

I loved every single one of the characters except her ex and I adored the little world of Maisie Meadows and all the quirky characters at Gildersleeve’s Auction House.

The black and white teaset story was a lovely touch throughout and helped her to reunite more than just some cups and saucers as some special people were reintroduced.

This is the second completely uplifting book of Jenni Keer’s and I am now eagerly awaiting the third.
Jenni Keer is an absolute star.

Sincerely
